Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive Leh
Arrive at Leh Airport and transfer to your hotel. Spend the day at leisure to acclimatize to the high altitude and rarefied air. Meet with staff from the Snow Leopard Conservancy for a briefing on the history of snow leopard conservation in Ladakh.
Day 2
Leh
Drive east towards Taglang La and the villages of Gya, Lhato, and Meru, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas. This drive takes you away from the valley of the Indus up a subsidiary valley to an extraordinary area. You have a chance of sighting wildlife including Blue sheep, Golden eagles, and Bearded vultures.
Day 3
Leh - Ulley
Drive west on the road to Kargil and Srinagar, following the Indus River, and pass through the small town of Nimmu. This is all snow leopard country, and the landscape is big, expansive, and open. You will drive on a dirt road, winding up a narrow valley, following a stream called the Ulley Chhu.
Day 4 - 7
Ulley
Settle in on arrival and acclimatize to the higher altitude of Ulley, surrounded by stunning mountain scenery. Our spotters will track the snow leopard, and you will be amazed at their dedication and commitment. You will explore the area on foot and SUV's, and get insights into local folklore and customs.
Day 8
Ulley - Leh
Drive back to Leh, visiting Alchi Monastery en route, and spend the afternoon shopping and exploring the Leh Market. This is a great opportunity to pick up some local souvenirs and try some local cuisine. Leh Market is a bustling place, and you can find everything from local handicrafts to trekking gear.
Day 9
Depart Leh
Breakfast at the hotel, and then transfer to the airport for your onward journey. This is the end of your journey, and you will leave with some wonderful memories of the snow leopard and the stunning landscapes of Ladakh. You will have experienced the local culture and spotted some rare wildlife.
